A mercenary boat captain. Dresses for a boardroom, even when on the bridge.

This was supposed to just be a character design, but Val wrote her notes, gossip and suspicions about him all over it!
She’ll probably be featured in the next character profile.

IASC Torpedo boat"Dear IASC stockholders: Despite your concerns on the visibility of our fleet’s current striking colors, please consider that our main function is deterrence. We WANT to be seen! Please also consider that the yellow on black striping helps reinforce our branding."
Concept for a risk-averse torpedo boat. The whole front section is a huge drone that detaches and does all the fighting, while the bridge hangs back and watches.
Took me a whole night to get from the quick doodley sketch to this painted-over 3d render. :3 I’d have added more textures and little details… But I’m getting sleepy!

Step Beach
Speedpainted location concept :3

The “Step Beach” is a huge floating wave breaker in a long parabolic arch. A horizontal dam against the pacific’s “hundred year wave”, it rises to about 30 meters. The lower steps were once used as wave energy collectors but are now mostly clogged up with sediments and life.

The steps are used as a causeway and common market area, with temporary shops and food stalls, but the occasional “barnacle house” is built to withstand the seasonal storms that everyone else packs up and leaves for.

Getting my head around the outdoor locations, I already have a clear idea on the indoor locations http://rubendevela.tumblr.com/image/97043194752

Uh so apparently Peter Jackson liked this old painting of Ungoliant well enough, that it will be included on the dvd/bluray of the behind the scenes release for The Hobbit 2! 0_0This redone version with slightly adjusted lighting will appear in the mini-documentary about Ungoliant, Shelob, and the other spider monsters from the lore!

I’m on the endgame last lap of Xenonauts, the indie Xcom. Ironman mode.I like that your soldiers can’t shoot while floating in the air, that’s a nice tactical limitation. What I hate is the occasional crowdsourced buggy map with weird roofs you can fly through or cannot stand on. Some of these maps really show the limits of the dev cycle they had to use.Mind control aliens really slow down the game. When one is around, you are forced to navigate the enormous alien craft with all your weapons holstered until you spot an enemy. So when your soldiers get mind controlled they scramble around like lunatics while you wait for them to calm down. Unfortunately, you are unarmed for reaction shots, so you must eat plasma in the face until your turn.On a related note, there are no human psionics in this game. I like that for this particular game. The simple 2d real time air combat is really, really fun. You can barrel roll to your heart’s content as your advanced interceptors approach the enemy capital ship, bullets and missiles flying around.Oh! There’s this real monster late game aircraft you can build, called the FURY. You need a salvaged UFO battleship core to build one. It’s a low orbital hypersonic strike craft, and it can hit any UFO on the globe in less than 2 hours. It has a single payload it lets fly before it has to return to base: an unstable captive singularity… on a scramjet torpedo… that detonates in a massive midair HAWKING RADIATION DECAY blast. You cannot salvage anything from a UFO hit with this weapon.
